Event #41 of the 2010 World Series of Poker was the ,500 Pot Limit Omaha Hi/Lo Split 8 or Better event. With 847 players registering for this event, that number was reduced to 157 for the start of day two. And when day three began there were only 15 players left but that number needed to be brought down to ten before we had the final table which ended up looking as follows:

Jeffrey Baker was eliminated from the table first. He bet the pot after the flop 7s-9d-8d, was raised by John Gottlieb and then went all in. Baker had 6d-3c-2s-Ad while Gottlieb was holding Ac-10s-6s-2c. The turn brought a 7d and the river an 8h which gave Gottlieb a straight and saw Baker heading to the rail in 10th place with prize money of ,544.
Next out was Joel Ettedgi whose early raise of 84000 was called all-in by Mandy Thomas. After a re-raise from Ben Lamb, Ettedgi also found himself all in for the side pot. The hands were as follows:
Thomas – Ah-5s-2h-2d
Lamb – As-Ks-Kh-4s
Ettedgi – Ad-Jd-7h-3d
The flop 5h-3s-2c gave Lamb a wheel and Thomas had a set of deuces while Ettedgi was looking to be on shaky ground. Another deuce on the turn (2s) gave Thomas quad deuces which meant she was looking to be the likely victor of the main pot. The 8c on the river gave Lamb the side pot and half the main pot with Thomas. Etedgi however was out of the competition in 9th spot but picked up a paycheck for ,432.
Ryan Karp found himself all-in pre-flop against Ben Lamb. Karp had Js-7c-8h-9c while Lamb’s hand consisted of As-Kc-6d-5d. The flop 3c-Jd-3 gave Karp two pair but the turn showed Ad which pushed Lamb in front with a diamond flush. The Qh on the river did nothing for Karp and he was out in eighth position which netted him ,635.
In the very next hand we saw another elimination. This time it was Phil Hellmuth who was all in pre-flop after he was re-raised by John Gottlieb. Hellmuth was holding As-10h-3c-3h in his hand but Gottlieb was ahead with Ah-Ad-Qh-8c. The flop Qc-9h-7s meant Gottlieb was still out in front and he stayed there after the turn 10c and the river 9d. So Hellmuth was the 7th place finisher and picked up ,633 for his efforts.
With Mandy Thomas raising to 75,000 from the small blind, she was re-raised by Ben Lamb and ended up all in. Lamb had As-7d-5d-3h, while Thomas had Js-8s-3d-2d. The flop was 6d-2s-Kh and the turn was Jd which left Lamb drawing for a flush and he was not disappointed when it came in the shape of Ad on the river. Thomas was out with a 6th place finish and prize money of ,169.
5th place went to Ben Lamb who was called by Anders Taylor after he raised to 175,000 pre-flop. The flop was 7s-6c-4s and both players were soon all in. Taylor was holding Ad-4d-3s-2s which gave him a flush draw and a pair of fours while Lamb had Ah-9c-7h-5c which gave him a straight draw on top of a pair of sevens and a weaker low. The turn was Kd but the river saw As appear and gave Taylor both the flush and a nut low giving him the entire pot and sending Lamb out the door with prize money of ,319.
The next elimination saw Anders Taylor and Michael Chappus both all in before the flop of Kc-Qs-10h. Taylor was in front with As-Kd-8c-5c in his hand while Chappus was starting to worry with his Ac-8s-5d-2s. His position did not improve after the turn 4c or the river Qh and he was sent to the rail in 4th spot taking a paycheck for ,728 with him.
Having seen off both Ben Lamb and Michael Chappus, it was Anders Taylor himself who was out next. His pre-flop call of a re-raise from Steve Jelinek put him all-in with Qh-Qd-4c-2d in his hand. This saw him ahead of Jelinek’s Js-9d-8d-6d. However the flop 9s-6h-6c immediately put Jelinek out in front with a full house. The turn and river 8c-Kc did not help Taylor and he was out of the game in 3rd place but his paycheck of ,913 was surely some consolation.
So heads up play began between Steve Jelinek and John Gottlieb and lasted for two and a half hours before the final hand was played. Gottlieb went all in when Jelinek opened the pot with a raise of 300,000 chips. The call was made by Jelinek who had As-Ah-Qd-4h in his hand. Gottlieb was holding Ad-Kh-9d-5c. The cards were turned over Qs-10c-8d-4d-5s which gave Jelinek two pair and eliminated John Gottlieb in second place. His take home prize for the runner up spot was 1,884.
But the winner of event number forty one was Steve Jelinek who took home 5,871 and a gold World Series of Poker bracelet as well as the title of champion. Congratulations to Steve Jelinek – Event #41 winner!
